Lion's mane dosage: how much to take and when

The short answer

Human studies have used roughly 750 mg to 3 g of lion's mane per day, usually split into two or three doses. Concentrated extracts need less than whole powder. Take it in the morning or early afternoon with food, consistently, for at least four weeks.

Dose by form

  • Whole fruiting-body powder: 1–3 g a day.
  • Concentrated extract (e.g. 8:1 or 10:1): often 500 mg–1 g a day.
  • Capsules: follow the label; 1,000 mg daily is a common serving.
  • Gummies and drops: lower doses per serving; check milligrams of mushroom per serving.

Timing

Most people take lion's mane in the morning for focus. It is not a stimulant, so it can be taken later, but pairing it with your morning routine helps consistency.

Starting out

Start at the lower end for a week, then move to the full label dose. Mild stomach upset is the most reported side effect, and taking it with food helps.

Cycling

There's no evidence you need to cycle lion's mane. Some people take weekends off simply to notice the difference.
